memorable experiences through design

Cell

CHAPTER #1 — STARTING OFF

Something about Clara…

Clara Tan is a young creative, dancer and programmer who is self employed but wants to make a difference to the world one small step at a time with the launch of her own startup: Cell - the fastest to organise and plan events with other people.

While merging her of greatest possession with it’s greatest restriction — life and time — she’s not only an “explorer” for life, but a modern entrepreneur as well. Based on her lifestyle of meeting new people and adventuring out into the world, the idea to create Cell was definitely not an accident.

I approached Clara in November 2018 in the hope she would allow me to create the mobile app for her as part of my portfolio, knowing very little about the scale it would grow to. I was on the front line while discussing our potential partnership and lucky enough to join Clara, alongside our team of mobile developers, for a two-year journey that saw the successful building of Cell.

Working with Clara

For me, deciding to work with Clara was quite simple. I liked her vision, drive, and ambitions for the project, and I think it was our mutual respect for one another that brought us together.

I saw Clara as someone I could learn from because she had far more experience working with software than I did and was quite well connected. On the other hand, Clara liked the work I’d done in the past and appreciated my innovative approach when bringing ideas to the table but most of all believed in me.

CHAPTER #2 — COLLECTING THE DATA

Research & User Experience

Research

We didn’t have a PM working on the project who could do full-scale research, so I took the initiative and created a quick sprint in order to learn more about the market, product, target audience and competition.

See a simplified version of the results and data I worked with (which was spread across multiple word documents) in the slides below*.

User Experience

Working with data collected during the research phase, I was able to set up user flows which we reviewed with the team. After that, we continued with the first version of wireframes.
